The premiere of The Barrier Orchestra. October 29, 20152015/10/29

The premiere of The Barrier Orchestra with the first performance of the experimental sound art performance RESILIENCE, GROUND LAYER MODULES in two parts.

Idea, composition and direction: Ann Rosén
Text: Helena Boberg

Thursday 29 October 2015, 7:30 pm at Fylkingen, Torkel Knutssonsgatan 2, Stockholm.

The Barrier Orchestra includes some of Sweden’s foremost musicians and artists – selected for their skills and their desire to challenge, exploit and explore their own barriers: Anna Lindal violin, Eva Lindal violin, Elsbeth Berg viola, Sara Sjödahl piano and accordion, Jörgen Pettersson saxophone, Matias Karlsen Björnstad saxophone, Ola Paulson saxophone, Jakob Riis trombone, Girilal Baars voice/singing, Helena Boberg voice, Sten‐Olof Hellström synths and electronics and Ann Rosén.

For The Barrier Orchestra’s first performance Ann Rosén has composed RESILIENCE, GROUND LAYER MODULES in two acts with text by Helena Boberg. With strings and bows, winds and white noise, electronic instruments and textile resistance, in a meeting of artistic disciplines and traditions the concert is modulated into existence

In the work RESILIENCE and through the BARRIER ORCHESTRA, Ann's long artistic activity is summarized in modular pieces for the custom-built instruments KNEECUFF and INTEOCH, mixed orchestration and voices.

THE BARRIER ORCHESTRA and the piece RESILIENCE are part of Ann Rosén’s The Great Barrier Orchestra project, which aims to challenge our inner and outer barriers, the ones we carry inside ourselves and the ones we encounter in the world around us, deepen collaboration with the musicians, composing and developing new instruments, playing techniques, music and art.

Anders Lindsjö och Jakob Riis - TACK! - new album out on italian label Setola di Maiale 2015/5/29

"When I threw an eye on the ticket that the performers had sent me, I noted that the travel time was calculated to be 42 minutes. Neither the itinerary or the destination was given away. Since I obviously was dreaming, this played a minor role. Just as I was about to leave, I happened to pull the ticket over my head and realized that it made an excellent blindfold! I did not have to see all those poor people who were going to be thanked in the most horrible ways.

Man's inner space and landscape is governed by its own laws. They are, if possible, even more difficult to interpret than the prevailing code of law that we usually have to lean on. The rules for visitation in creation myths are in many ways different from those prevailing in public transportation. This was just one example.

When I pulled off my blindfold, I found myself in a place where my friends were no longer visible. One eye rolled away across the floor; probably the same that glanced at the ticket? We were in such a place where the presence of the others seems unfathomable. It was then I tried to explain the dream for the dream itself. I remembered the window clearly with my fingertips. Someone had breathed against the glass, and I perceived a handprint. I must have happened to mention that I had a feeling that Keiji Haino ...

Liquid Nails in concert @ Black Noise Wind - a sound project by Noise Ⓐgainst Fascism 2015/5/13

Liquid Nails:
Mathias Kristersson – feedback drums.
Jakob Riis – laptop and prepared loudspeakers.

Wedensday 13 may, 2015, 19h
Inter Arts Center, Bergsgatan 29, Malmö, Sweden
Black Room, 4th floor

Liquid Nails is an improvisation duo challenging the plasticity of drums and loudspeakers. Through feedback in the drums and with loadspeakers as windmachines drumskins, papers and other materials are brought into vibrations creating drones, wind, quakes and storm.

This concert is a part of the ongoing project Black Noise Wind where Noise Ⓐgainst Fascism (Mathias Kristersson) during the first three weeks in May presents a work in progress in the Black room at Inter Arts Center. The musical project will change and develop over time and visitors are invited to take part of the process.

Instead of using musical instruments Mathias Kristersson will create wind and music with fans and wind machines. Featured are also performances with invited musicians and artists. The aim is to collect and compile shattered pieces and thoughts from a time of political anger and despair. And a wish to turn these destructive feelings into something constructive.

Metamorfoser. Premiere may 8th, 2015, Riksteatern, Hallunda 2015/5/8-9

A performance art-works will take place on Friday 8th May at 19:00 and Saturday the 9th of May at 14:00 and 19:00 at the National Theatre, Hallunda. Anna Einarsson has done the music, Jörgen Dahlqvist has written text and is responsible for directing. Participating singers are Anna Einarsson, Sofia Jernberg, Sara Niklasson, Lina Nyberg and live electronics Jakob Riis

Metamorfoser is a performance piece for four singers and live electronics. The piece is composed by Anna Einarsson with text by Jörgen Dahlqvist from Teatr Weimar and is a variation on Ovid's Metamorphoses, where we meet the singers in various stages of transformation. The four roles of P, S, G, and N is the four archetypes that either themselves changed themselves, or by other's gaze forced to make a change. The lyrics are based on Pistorius, Snowden, Lady Gaga, and Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe), where the metamorphosis is from acclaimed athlete into killer and / or simultaneously from human to human / machine, from the Patriots to the traitors, from woman to man. At the same the entire work is based on a methamorphorical movement following the creation of a butterfly where man by pupating turns into something else which can then move freely through the air.
Metamorphosis is also a study of relationships that occur between materials, based on movements of bodies in spaces.
The work is part of Anna Einarsson's PhD studies at the Royal College of Music, which deals with the relationship between voice and interactive live electronics and the experience of this for both audience and performers.

Friday 8/5 - 19.00
Saturday 9/5 - 14.00 & 19.00
Riksteatern, Hallundavägen 30, Norsborg
Free entrance

Premiere performance of "Laboration in memory of Leonardo Pisano" by Ola Paulsson 2015/4/25

Premiere performance of the composition "Laboration in memory of Leonardo Pisano" by Ola Paulson at KOMPFEST, Palladium, Malmö 18 april 2015.

Anders Lindsjö - guitar (alternate tuning).
Jakob Riis - computer, realtime processing, prepared loudspeakers.

Laboration in memory of Leonardo Pisano is an homage to the creator of the Fibonacci sequence.
The Fibonacci sequence is well-known and well-used in the arts in general. It often appear in more or less complex interpretations where the sequence as such, only serves as an initial, and often quite hidden, technique for basic form and structure (the relationship between the numbers in the sequence gives us values related to the golden ratio etc). However, by using the sequence more hands-on and figuratively, I have tried to lift the sequence banality and simplicity into light and the listeners ear, where the numbers concretely gets portrayed as ascending and descending melody lines and rhythms.

The Soundinstallation "Det glömda modersmålet" at Konsthallen Sandviken 28 feb - 22 mar, 20152015/2/28

Elisabeth Moritz exhibition "Steget mot det förflutna" is showing at Konsthallen Sandviken 28 february - 22 march. The soundinstallation "Det glömda modersmålet" is part of the exhibition. The composition for this installation is by Jakob Riis, commisioned by - and based on the ideas of Elisabeth Moritz.

All sounds in this work are generated from a recording of E. Moritz mother reading the text "Die Vergangenheit als Gegenwart" by Martin Walser, where the melodic and harmonic structure of the lullaby "Wiegenlied" by Franz Schubert are shining through, and creating a framework for choosing sinusoidal tracks to follow in a re-synthesis of sounds generated from the recording. The composition is presented in an 8 channel soundsystem with specially designed loudspeakers.
