EAR SOUND SCAPE III
maria laurette friis  jakob riis  jørgen teller
solo  duo  trio
electronic music for 3-way loudspeaker orchestra

Ear Sound Scape focuses on innovative meetings between composers and instrumentalists and performance of sound art in the fields of Soundscapes / Spatial Music / Loudspeaker Concerts. This is the third consecutive year of an annual concert in this series.

This concert is based on the dynamics between the three musicians, Maria Laurette Friis, Jørgen Teller and Jakob Riis, with sound and diffusion in a three-phase soundsystem with three loudspeakers. Differences are amplified, modulated and reflected in each other in the acoustic diversity of Sofiebadet with its sound pockets of bass, treble and resonance.

The title Ear Sound Scape evokes associations on the ears and øresund to the sound and soundscapes. In further consequence also the human ear's presence in the countryside, and by extension, human perception and interpretation.

The two previous years Ear Sound Scape presented concerts in the Dome of Visions, which temporarily offered a unique transparent space with the city and the water in the constant presence. This year the series moves to Sofiebadet, a room where the city and the water have met under different circumstances since 1909. Sofiebadet has long been recognized in classical and experimental music world for its unique acoustics, often used with great success for sound art and experimental concerts.

Loxbo/Vestergaard

Loxbo/Vestergaard is a Swedish-Danish duo that mix acoustic sounds of guitar and snare drum with feedback electronics. They play freely improvised music that is barren, fragile and uncompromising.

Anders Vestergaard is very active on the Danish alternative music scene, among others, with his band Yes Deer and his solo project, but also as musician in bands like Jacob Anderskovs Just In Time a.o.

Finn Loxbo plays acoustic guitar in several different configurations, but also the electric guitar in the band Strändernas Svall, Doglife and Fire! Orchestra.

Jakob Riis, solo

This marks the premiere of a new set-up for solo perfomance by Jakob Riis, combining his former main instrument - the trombone - with analogue electronic feedback circuits, hand cymbals and contact microphone.

With this mix of instruments the aim is to initiate a process of bringing a self-regulating music to surface, with soundings of acoustic and electronic cracklings, slides and currents.

24 september 2016 kl. 12-18

Konvoj Ensemble - MIRA. New Album out on Konvoj Records, May 25th, 20162016/5/25

Konvoj Ensemble - MIRA (KOR009)

This line up is an eccentric collection of freedom seekers with self-imposed formal requirements and energy management - as one reviewer so cleverly and correctly put it a few years ago.

The extended version of the ensemble (feat. Evan Parker and Sten Sandell) played together for the firts time during a residency at the festival Music Around in Malmö and Copenhagen 2012. That time it resulted in the acclaimed album Colors Of:. And now they are back!

Gathered around a collection of graphic scores and interactive methods, the ensemble uses their skills as sound explorers, to navigate through a complex musical organism. Mira is composed/constructed by Ola Paulson and Jakob Riis, on commission by the project Inter Labs, and was broadcasted live on Swedish Radio in connection with the Sound of Stockholm Festival 2014.

Reviews on Mira:

...The five pieces ebb and flow, alternating between patient, collective improvisations to eccentric, volcanic eruptions. Each piece emphasizes a certain strategy of the ensemble collective language... This composition demands repeated listening in order to fully explore its complex, nuanced aspects. - **** Eyal Hareuveni, The Free Jazz Collective

...It will take us a while to fuller absorb the many layers and nuances of what makes this so wonderful but as of my third listen, I am already knocked out. - Bruce Lee Gallanter, DMG

...Paulson and Riis have constructed a score with plenty of headroom and space for each instrument to me individually heard. The pleasure is in identifying the voices of say, Anker, Parker, or Mockünas' saxophone. Sure things might get noisy, like the opening of "Speak Out," but things settle into those individual voices and the meld of two or three at once. This is a most satisfying experience. - Mark Corroto, All About Jazz

Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Black Hole Merger2016/2/12

Today our salutes goes out to the LIGO team: On September 14, 2015 at 09:50:45 UTC the two detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory simultaneously observed a transient gravitational-wave signal. The signal sweeps upwards in frequency from 35 to 250 Hz... Read more...

Albert Einstein predicted the existence of Gravitational Waves in 1916 but he also thought that we would never be able to detect these tiny distortions in spacetime. Nevertheless gravitational-wave observatories have been built and constantly improved since the 1960's. LIGO operates two of these detectors. Put in their own words LIGO are listening for Gravitational Waves with Ears Wide Open. From 2002-2010 it was without succes. But after a major upgrade, with enhancements of the laser power and other parts of the hardware, operation was restarted in september 2015, and yesterday LIGO announced the first detection of gravitational waves ever and thereby proving Einsteins prediction correct.
