The Copenhagen musician Jørgen Teller released a solo guitar album in 2022 titled Berlin, a collection of intensely concentrated, brittle, scraping-and-plucked explorations on a prepared guitar, itself an objet trouvé discovered on a street in Kreuzberg. The Berlin-based head of zeitkratzer, Reinhold Friedl, picked up the thread. Already known for his uncompromising inside-piano techniques, he initiated a risky and daring collaboration: six guitar strings paired with more than 200 piano strings.
As Teller is also an electronic musician, he expanded the setup with live, real-time quadraphonic spatialization, a bold string-play in 3D.
Imagine objects gliding across strings, a heavy piano lid wide open, resonances trembling beneath. Guitar splinters erupt from complex sound-surfaces; E-bows sing; rich overtones shimmer. The guitar shifts between quiet companion and commanding protagonist, its bass strings tuned deep, raw, harsh. The piano reflects that same fluidity: tactile, unfamiliar objects excite its strings and coax out odd resonances.
Breathing four-channel spatial dialogues emerge, unexpected, humorous, bright, sometimes brittle, suddenly sharpened by bursts of crystal clarity. Sound becomes motion. Space becomes tension. And always, the strings remain the essential sonic ground.
Breath of Directions is a composition for violin and electronics: a violinist in real time, a four-channel tape part, and quadraphonic live processing that turns the room itself into a resonant instrument. The work draws on the Pythagorean idea of a cosmic breath, sound understood as a living, vibrating geometry. The quadraphonic field becomes an invisible lung that expands and contracts around the listener. Pulses arc between loudspeakers; tones merge into delicate interference patterns; brief flashes of clarity appear and dissolve.
The Icelandic violinist Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir, known for her boundary-defying approach to contemporary performance, brings a playing style that merges precision with rare physical sensitivity. She moves fluently between early music, experimental practice, and spatial listening. Her approach draws out the violin’s grain, breath, and fragile resonances, treating sound as tactile material, alive and poised on the threshold between control and release.
Working at the intersection of live electronics, spatial audio, and improvisation, Jakob Riis has long explored how algorithmic processes, real-time transformation, and multichannel diffusion can shape sound as a moving, shifting architecture. In Breath of Directions, his quadrophonic processing extends the violin into space, stretching, refracting, and reshaping its tones into a breathing sonic geometry.

Programme:
American choreographer and dancer Rachel Tess, based in Sweden, leads MARC in Knislinge. Her work creates immersive, site-specific experiences where movement, space, and environment come together in unexpected ways. For Sonic Picnic she will present "The Last", a performance that reimagines the gala by stripping away pomp and privilege, replacing luxury with time, endurance, and presence. Instead of grand stages and elite audiences, it unfolds in raw spaces, creating an experience that is both intimate and relentless. Like a grinding, steaming locomotive, it keeps moving forward — alive, insistent, and always opening new directions.
Choreographer and dancer Emma Ribbing has been creating multidisciplinary work since 1997, exploring movement across boundaries of stage, scenography, costume internationally and locally. She regularly tour dances for young audiences. Most recently working in stage fighting and choreography for Helsingborg Stadsteater. At Landskrona freight rail yard she will present a site-responsive performance — an interactive score shaped by architecture, water, and ten white stools. The work unfolds in constant motion, inviting the audience to experience the landscape not as a backdrop, but as an active, living part of the dance.

This years final Sonic Picnic will include the premiere presentation of his quadrophonic work "Resonant Trails". An electronic set in dialogue with the terrain, where the sounds reflect the rawness and stillness of the place, transforming the space into an instrument, while the seemingly abandoned rail yard reaches out towards the world.
Three summer evenings at three distinctive sites along abandoned railway tracks in Skåne, where good food and drink meet resonant encounters with art – picnics, music, performance, vistas, and architecture in interplay.

A picnic, concert and performance experience set among the abandoned railway tracks near the Lokstallarna in Kirseberg. The rails and wild greenery form a unique scenography in this industrial area, framed by the Ringline and the monumental structures of the former railway workshop.
Joker Nies (DE), analogue electronics – Electro-sapiens exploring sound through modified instruments and custom circuits – active as a musician, sound designer, and improviser on the international experimental scene.
Tove Bagge (SWE), viola – Improviser, composer, and music educator based in Malmö. Active in experimental music, early music, free improvisation, and folk music.
Silas Bieri (CH/SWE), electronics –
Malmö-based sound engineer and designer with a background in electronic musician, composition and stage art. He runs the in-discourse studio and works internationally in art and as a creative composer. At Sonic Picnic he will present a new work based on foley sound and cassette tapes.
Halla Steinunn Stefánsdóttir (IS/SWE) – Violinist and composer exploring the more-than-human world through sound. In a "riveting" and "poetic" music, bringing improvisation and a new intelligent performance platform to this event.

A site-specific evening of sound, movement, and picnic inside the monumental remains of Köpingebro's former sugar factory. Once the largest in Sweden, this industrial giant now sets the stage for an evening with experimental music, performance, and picnic among echoes of machinery and wild-growing nature.
Vincent Bahar – Swedish-Iranian artist and composer materialising sound coming from experimental, classical and Iranian culture. In avant performance with the Sufi frame drum Daf and vocal ambience.
Khamlane Halsackda (he/him/they) - Choreographer, performer, and producer born in Laos and raised in the UK. His work blends personal narrative with social commentary, focusing on identity, belonging, and presence. Through movement and performance, he invites dialogue around what it means to exist in a shifting world. Since 2009, he has been a member of Nya Rörelsen, a Malmö-based collective of QBIPOC choreographers.
Jørgen Teller – Electronic composer and guitarist. A pioneer of the underground experimental scene in Denmark, tracing back to the late 1970’s. Sprung out of a whirlpool of post-punk and art school ideas. Here with the premier performance of the new work – dépêche toi ! – an edge of noise meets drones and action!

Brattenborg lookout point is located in the Lyadalen Nature Reserve – a rift valley formed by geological shifts more than 200 million years ago. The landscape has been shaped by ice ages and erosion, and the Lyabäcken stream has carved ravines and small waterfalls into the valley floor.
The area is also rich in cultural history. The pasturelands surrounding Brattenborg have been used for grazing over generations, and traces of this use remain visible today. Just below the lookout point, the former railway over the Hallandsåsen ridge once passed – now transformed into a walking and cycling path known as the Bjäre Rail Trail.
We aim to highlight the unique character of this place – where geology, nature, and human history intersect – through sound art and performance in dialogue with the landscape and its own soundscape.
Emma Ribbing - With a background in dance, photography, and video production, she has worked as a choreographer, pedagogue, and movement director for stage and film for 29 years, with London, Lausanne, and Malmö as her base.
At Sonic Picnic 2025, she will perform the site-specific score Viewpoint – a dancer – a time capsule, a temporary structure where the body and textures stretch the tabloids of the horizon, creating a vanishing architecture of resilience.
Stefan Klaverdal - electronics. Klaverdal is a Swedish composer and sound artist based on the horst of Hallandsåsen, whose work often centers on nature. Here, we are taken on a hypnotic or meditative journey underground, through buried microphones and amplified trees.
Elin Hedin - Sweden-based dancer and choreographer. From 2021 to 2024, she served as Municipal Choreographer in Helsingborg, creating several stage works and dance films, including Hjärtat i handen with Julia Kraus. She trained at Balettakademien in Stockholm and pursued further studies internationally. Elin has collaborated with many independent choreographers, performed at venues such as the Royal Opera and the Dublin Dance Festival, and founded the Stockholm Dance Film Festival.
Jakob Riis - Danish/swedish electronic musician and composer, whose current works exhibits a strong focus on spatial experience of sound. Here presenting a quadrophonic montage, in a live electronic set, evoking an imagined collective memory of the surroundings.
This event takes place in a nature reserve – please show respect for local flora, fauna, and other visitors. Sound levels and movement are adapted to the sensitivity of the site.

A concert in two parts, presented in IAC’s Acousmonium now comprising more than 40 loudspeakers.
An exploration of two interconnected themes: Duration and Endurance. The first part examines duration as a musical and conceptual phenomenon - where time stretches, tempos slow, and sound evolves through extended states. The second part shifts the focus to the human and physical aspects of persistence, exploring stress, pain, and resilience through sound. Together, these works create a dialogue between the expansive perception of time and the inner experience of endurance.

The legendary Finnish electronic duo Pan Sonic released their sixth studio album, Kesto (234.48:4), in 2004.
Kesto - Finnish for duration - is a conceptual 4CD album that explores the full breadth of Pan Sonic’s musical palette. Across nearly four hours of music, the album undergoes a gradual yet profound transformation, slowing in tempo, softening in dynamics, and extending durations.

Endurance
Endurance (Kestävyys in Finnish) is a new composition by Jakob Riis interpreting the ability to endure sustained periods of stress and pain, as well as the broader implications of hardship and suffering. The sonic material is derived from analogue synthesizers, digital electronic tools, and geophone recordings captured around Bergsgatan 29, Malmö.

Sound diffusion: Jakob Riis
Jakob Riis is a Danish-Swedish laptop musician and composer of electroacoustic music. Improvisation plays a central role in his musical approach, shaping immersive soundscapes that are carefully explored on-site together with the audience. His work and discography feature collaborations across diverse artistic formats, and in recent years with a special focus on spatial music and electroacoustic compositions for various settings.
Paul Jacob Fossum, keyboards/Hilal Can, visuals/Susana Nunes, vocals
This unique constellation of performance artists features Hilal Can with analog live visuals, Susana Nunes with voice + electronics, and PJ Fossum with objects + electronics. Can’s live visual practice has been ongoing since 2019 in her project Cyclop Visuals. She brings this practice to Can/Nunes/Fossum, using an analog projector with paint, ink, brushes, cut-outs, and other objects to create mesmerizing visual projections. Nunes and Fossum accompany this visual experience with an improvised score of melody, noise, and texture. By reciprocating artistic actions, this interdisciplinary trio creates hypnotic audiovisual improvisations.
21:00 Irene Bianco – percussion, electronics
Irene Bianco delivers a visionary and experimental sound that pushes the boundaries of percussion in unexpected directions. The live set includes vintage percussion instruments, objects, electronics, and field recordings, blending together to create an incredibly colorful and non-clichéd world of instrumental music. Her music has been described as sonic poetry, which - between polyrhythms and fragmented melodies - takes the listener on a journey into spontaneity and unconventionality, leaving space for unpredictability and whimsy.
Irene Bianco is a percussionist, free improviser, and composer based in Copenhagen. She began playing drums at an early age before training as a classical percussionist, with musical influences ranging from Baroque and orchestral music to ’90s rock and club music. In addition to her solo work, she is an active freelancer and a member of Damkapellet and Wolfskin Ensemble. Her solo debut album Kronblade was released in October 2024 on the London-based label Permanent Draft.

An electronic solo set where modules from recent quadrophonic compositions unfold in an improvisational exploration of the spatial dimensions of sound, striving to create openings for both physical and mental resonance.
Jakob Riis is a composer, sound artist, and performer specializing in experimental electronic music and electroacoustics. With roots in jazz and improvisation, he has developed a diverse artistic practice over the years, ranging from solo performances and compositions for both large and small ensembles to interdisciplinary collaborations across genres.
