MIRA is a further investigation into animated graphical notation for improvising ensembles, which Ola Paulson and Jakob Riis started with the work "Colors of" from 2012. The development of MIRA is done in the project "Inter Labs (To Work Between - To Act Among)" which is supported by Kulturbryggan and Inter Arts Center.

During the Inter Labs project Ola Paulson and Jakob Riis will develop an interactive tool for graphic notation as a platform for collective improvised music. Using MAX/MSP and iPad application MIRA will will create an interface for laborations in the space between improvisation and composition. A tool that takes advantage of the composers ability to create form and structure, and improvisors ability to transform these ideas in real time and to experiment with the compositional elements. The tool should thus permit movement between improvisation and composition in a live context and create a situation where musicians from different fields faster and easier will be able to establish forms and structures of coherent compositional whole.

In practise this means a portable workstation for graphic communication with compositional elements in an improvisational context, live on stage or as a device for music education.

As a part of the project development we will also use this technic to, along with the technological construction, create a new interactive graphic and instructions based composition for Konvoj Ensemble. The piece will be premiered on tuesday November 4 at IAC as a part of the ensembles tour in Sweden (see below).
