Liquid Nails VN2016/1/9-11

The duo “Liquid Nails” with Mathias Kristersson and Jakob Riis has existed since 2009, and have been playing concerts in Denmark and Sweden.

In January 2016 - this time in Vietnam - the concept of “Liquid Nails” will continue developing in dialog with two Vietnamese musicians, đàn tranh player Nguyễn Thanh Thủy, and singer Đoàn Thanh Bình.

In this project Jakob Riis will be joining the two “Liquid Nails VN” performances and Mathias Kristersson will provide a set of instructions in form of small symbolic performances, live sculptures and approaches for the three participationg live musicians to carry out during the concerts.

Đoàn Thanh Bình is a well-known Chèo artist who has received many awards both as a performer and as a singer. Not only working in both the Chèo and the Ca trù musical traditions of northern Vietnam; where she can be heard on numerous CD's, she also has many years of experience working with contemporary music. Đoàn Thanh Bình is a professor at Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema.

Nguyễn Thanh Thủy is a well-known Vietnamese đàn tranh player. She works with both traditional and experimental music as a performer/improvisor; collaborates with many musicians and composers around the world. She has received many distinctions and has recorded several CD’s as soloist with orchestra and solo Cds. Since 2000 she holds a teaching position at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. Since 2012 she is carrying out an artistic doctoral project at the Malmö Academy of Music concerned with gesture in traditional Vietnamese music.

Jakob Riis is a danish composer, electro-acoustic musician and improviser primarily active in the experimental fields. Former trombonist and a laptop pioneer on the danish experimental scene, now focusing on electronic-, noise and electroacoustic music, often making solo laptop perfomances, improvising within open structures. He has composed music for bigband, chamber ensembles as well as electronic and electro acoustic music and played with notable improvising musicians from various countries and continents. http://sonicescape.net

Mathias Kristersson is a Swedish visual artist and musician. As an artist he works with different media such as sound, sculpture, performance, video and text. His works often deals with language and communication, both as estetical material and informative phenomenon. Musically he works with drum as well as acoustic and electronic feedback. Combining the attributes of resonance and feedback creating pedal points, drones and harsh noise.
