DALLRINGAR
Söndag, 17 september, 17:00 - 18:45
Stadsparken, Lund
>>>>>> OBS!! NY SPELPLATS <<<<<<
På grund av akademiska anti-dallringar nödgas vi flytta vår exkursion till den mer
fritt vibrerande Stadsparken i Lund.

For this concert at vardagsrummet Jakob Riis will present two acts.
First out are the performance of his new composition ”Inhabitants” based on recordings of vibrations and spirits, inhabiting the surroundings of the deserted railway tracks at Lokstallarna in Malmö, and their electronic reflections.
The second part is a collaboration with electronic wizard Sten-Olof Hellström, with live analogue electronics and digital real-time processing.
Jakob Riis is a composer of electro-acoustic music, and a pioneering laptop musician, of uncompromising and sonically enhanced musical expressions. He lives and works in Malmö since 2005.
Sten-Olof Hellström's motto has always been No samples, sound files, presets or sequencers, just pure sound synthesis.
In 2013 he celebrated thirty years as a professional composer by obtaining a doctorate in composition at the University of Huddersfield, UK. After his doctorate, Sten-Olof began experimenting with field recordings, but now he has returned to his roots and builds his compositions from the smallest components of sound.
JØRGEN TELLER
Teller's work has strong roots in organized sound, musique concrète, electronic music, de-tuned guitar-rock songwriting, free-form guitar, drone / spectral music, acousmatic spatial music, jazz'n'poetry, performance and new dance.
In recent years he has focused his work as a "Nomadic composer", an expression of the fact working in many changing situations and in many different spaces in very different cities. Often in new series – every place.
In 2022-23 composing especially for acoustic and electric guitar, vocals, synths, ultra-sound / field recordings. International concerts with Static Teller, and with acousmatic sound works for loudspeaker orchestra for Ears-Sound-Scape. Celebrating the resilience of dance in the former industry of train, Emma Ribbing is gratefull to frame performative tabloids -playfull textures of costumes and body, with the stark aesthetics of Lokstallarna. With London, Switzerland and Malmö as a base she toured worldwide for 25 years in a wide range of dance productions, from neoclassical dance to minimal art performance, music videos and pop concerts. Together with Silas Bieri she is the artistic director of in-discourse. Currently she is working on a book about dance as temporary architecture, based on preschool children's portrayal of their living environment.

Alexis Rodríguez Cancino runs the electronic music label blundar. Since its inception, blundar has released a string of albums by artists working in the experimental field bordering techno and sub-genres of dance music.
The label’s catalogue so far is a carefully curated vision of atmospheric manipulations in sound.
For Sonic Picnic Alexis will present a combination of previously released and forthcoming unreleased material from the label. Experimental sounds above genre qualifications and artists persona.

Jørgen Teller will present the premiere the new work, "Rails in Haze". A celebration of Lockstallarna's unique rayon of rusty rails.
Listen to the specially tuned timbres of motorized electric guitar-strings, metallic percussion, commanding voices, field-sounds and pulsating bass-synth-lines.
Teller has a long career as an electric guitarist, vocalist, electronic musician and performer. He has released multiple records and have collaborated/performed with numerous danish and international artists.

All of a sudden he stands there! Who is he and what does he wants. He will tell you his story as a navvy, when he built Lokstallarna all by him self and singing some songs from his career as an entertainer. But what is the truth about this person? Who is behind the mask.
Matthias Hahne Thorbjörnsson is a professional actor, working freelance and running his own theatre in Malmö.

Elise Brewer works within the expanded field of contemporary dance and choreography. Her work often takes place in public urban spaces where the interest lies in investigating performative aspects of those specific sites to give resonance to the multitude of desires, values and needs that they hold and that could unfold. This as a response to the growing tendency of privatization of commonly owned resources that subsumes the development of cities under singular values of economic growth.
For Sonic Picnic she will create a dance piece/dance portrait alongside the specific site through the use of text, dance, gestures, positions and steps.
The vibrations and spirits, inhabiting the surroundings of the deserted railway tracks, lays the grounds for this premiere presentation of a site specific, quadrophonic composition by Jakob Riis.

In this special version of the 7th edition of "Ear Sound Scape", we are proud to present three electroacoustic compositions and soundscapes, by composers from Canada, Denmark, and Sweden.
Three compositions, each with different approaches of composing for spatial sound, in both multichannel and ambisonic formats, are presented during an acousmatic consert in the 35+ loudspeaker large Acousmonium, that again this year are installed during a few weeks in april in the Red Room at Inter Arts Center, in conjunction with the Intonal festival
The world-premier of a new soundscape, "Absent Near Dawn" by the Canadian composer Darren Copeland, alongside two new works by Ear Sound Scape regulars: the premiere of "In and Out of Here" by Jørgen Teller, and a performance of "Hemmaglöd" by Jakob Riis.

"Hemmaglöd" - by Jakob Riis
Sound diffusion by Jørgen Teller and Jakob Riis
Absent Near Dawn (Dec 2021 - June 2022) 2023 - 28:17
This new composition is part of Darren Copeland’s ongoing series of soundscape pieces “The Absent Listener”. Pieces in this series are derived from continuous soundscape recordings made on a 14-acre rural residential property in Lount, which is an unincorporated township located 40 kilometres from the northwestern edge of Algonquin Park (Ontario, Canada). The property has mixed forests with a variety of Maple, White Pine, Cedar, Spruce, Tamarack and Birch trees. It borders on a lake, and a creek, and has a mixture of rocky and swampy terrain. It is also 20 KM from a highway. This distance limits the road noise audible in the soundscape to only local vehicle traffic.
The recordings are made continuously and unsupervised save for battery changes and maintenance visits every two days. The recording process is done in this way so that the presence of the recordist has as little influence as possible on the sound-making of people, animals and insects. Recordings are made with two DPA 4060 lavalier omni-directional microphones mounted in a boundary configuration that are occasionally augmented with an Aquarian Audio hydrophone and LOM geophone.
Absent Near Dawn is based on recordings that happened within one hour before or after daybreak. They are arranged in a chronological sequence of recordings every 4 to 6 weeks between December 2021 and June 2022. All of the recordings retain their original character, pitch, speed and spatial imaging. Multiple recordings are overlapped throughout the piece in order to condense and arrange them for multi-channel concert presentation.
"In and Out of Here" - a study by Jørgen Teller
A sound-piece in six parts based on spatial recordings of live actions in a circular 8-16 speaker system. Teller used soundfield microphones in a tetrahedral microphone set-up, both for recording of sound actions, and later for the final creation of the ambisonic 1st order sound-file.
The aim of this study is to spatially explore the inherent timbres of a copper-plate and the frame of a grand-piano - played with a contact microphone as the plectrum. Thus hinting at steps of dance shoes running around in and out of your skull.
A short intro features a montage of synths, palmas, tetrahedral recordings of objects and field-recordings from a visit to Cádiz 2022.
Created at EMS and Inkonst 2023.
"Hemmaglöd" - 10′44″ - by Jakob Riis
An electro-acoustic composition investigating sounds from everyday home-electronics, and sounds from other acoustic and electronic devices found in the apartment.
For this performance the 16 channels of the composition are explored through 5th order ambisonic spatialazation, rather than traditional diffusion in the large acousmonium.
Premiered at the "Glowing Electronics Festival, Östra Hoby 2022"
Darren Copeland is a Canadian sound artist who has been active since 1985 and currently lives outside of the village of South River, Ontario, Canada. His work includes projects exploring multichannel spatialization for live performance, fixed media composition, soundscape composition, radio art and sound installations. The collaboration between Lithuanian saxophonist Liudas Mockūnas and Danish laptop musician Jakob Riis dates back to the year 2000. Together they played in groups such as Toxikum, Copenhagen Art Ensemble, Rød Planet, Konvoj Art Ensemble feat. Evan Parker and Sten Sandell et al.
Liudas Mockūnas and Jakob Riis released 6 albums together, including their duo album "Uncertain Statistics". Jakob Riis is a Danish/Swedish musician and composer of electro-acoustic music, here playing laptop doing real-time processing on an improvised creative axis.
Jakob's track record and extensive discography reveals collaborations with a wide variety of artists in the most unexpected formats. He started his career as a jazz trombonist, later became fascinated with contemporary music as well as free jazz and European improvisational music, and even later delved into the art of arranging and composing, which organically led him to experimental electroacoustic music.
For the past two decades, Jakob Riis has been known as a laptop-playing improviser collaborating with a whole host of European improv stars. As a composer, he writes music for chamber ensembles, orchestras, big bands and loudspeaker-orchestras, creates sound installations and works with spatial music.
